Job Opportunity: Design Manager - Building Management Systems (BMS)

A dynamic and forward-thinking company specializing in Building and Energy Management Systems is seeking an experienced Design Manager to join their team. This role is crucial to ensuring the delivery of innovative, high-quality BMS designs that meet contractual specifications and client expectations.

The position is based primarily in the Coulsdon office, with occasional travel to project offices across London.

About the Role:
As a Design Manager, you will develop and refine detailed BMS control system designs based on sales quotations, contract documentation, specifications, and drawings. You'll collaborate with project teams, clients, and stakeholders to align designs with project objectives, address scope gaps, and mitigate risks.

Key Responsibilities:

Project Delivery:

• Maintain quality standards (ISO 9001) in all design activities.
• Deliver accurate and timely design documentation, including equipment schedules, point schedules, and operation descriptions.
• Attend project handovers and design meetings, providing technical input and solutions.
• Collaborate with engineers and suppliers to gather technical information and address project needs.
• Manage CAD designs, ensuring accuracy before release for manufacturing or client review.
• Identify and communicate design variations to the project manager.

Commercial Awareness:

• Monitor design hours to ensure efficient project delivery.
• Identify and support claims for additional work opportunities and associated costs.
• Submit weekly timesheets to support accurate job costing.

Team Collaboration:

• Partner with project managers, CAD engineers, and software engineers to meet project requirements.
• Offer technical guidance and mentorship to less experienced engineers.
• Contribute to a collaborative and positive work environment.
• Support the development of trainee staff through guidance and knowledge sharing.

Specialist Skill Sets:

• Demonstrate a solutions-oriented mindset with strong problem-solving and communication skills.
• Manage time and priorities effectively to deliver projects on schedule.
• Bring enthusiasm, flexibility, and commitment to seeing projects through to completion.

Technical Requirements:

• Proven experience delivering BMS designs for large construction projects.
• Expertise in liaising with construction teams, main contractors, and clients.
• Proficiency in creating engineering documentation, including points lists and operation descriptions.
• Knowledge of building services systems and major BMS platforms (e.g., Trend, Distech, Tridium, Delta).
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools and CAD software.
• Relevant technical qualifications and accreditations.
• CSCS cardholder.

Desirable Experience:

• Familiarity with IT networks and topologies.
• Understanding of smart building concepts and cloud-based technologies.
• Knowledge of standard naming conventions in smart building systems.
